  1. This Kid

Lyrics

This Kid (a Parent's song)

I'm gonna wrap up my hopes and pack up my dreams,
Place them all in a box with my young man-ish schemes,
And build that box strong lest fear weaken the seams,
And hand that box off to This Kid.

See a man doesn't know when his time comes to Dad,
How to keep the Good's good and prevent the Bad's bad,
But he'll wear all those choices, both happy and sad,
And hope for the best for This Kid.

He's gonna teach her the lessons he's learned through his lifes,
For the makings of joys and preventings of strifes,
He'll teach her the uses of hammers and knifes,
To build a big life for This Kid.

She's got her mother's full lips and her small button nose,
Her mommas big round eyes, but brow furrows like those,
I see in the mirror when I stand to shave,
I've instilled in her fears that I'll take to my grave,

I'll let her climb on my back, and we'll walk to the sun,
Where I'll fight every demon, with love, or a gun
I'll stand tall at the gates of Hell, or The One,
And I'll pound on those gates for This Kid.

She's got her mother's full lips and her small button nose,
Her mommas big eyes, but brow furrows like those,
I see in the mirror when I stand to shave,
Is it she that I'm saving, or me that's being saved,

So I've wrapped up my hopes and I've packed up my dreams,
Placed them all in a box with my young man-ish schemes,
And I've built that box strong lest fear weaken the seams,
And I'll hand that box off to this kid,
Yes, I'll hand that box off to this kid.
